IS 302 : Part 2 : Sec 42 : 2024/IEC 60335-2-42 : 2021 Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2 Particular Requirements - Section 42 Commercial Electric Forced Convection Ovens, Steam Cookers and Steam-Convection Ovens

ICS 97.40.20

(Superseding IS 302-2-46 : 1993)

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2/Section 42) which is identical to IEC 60335-2-42 : 2021 'Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-42: Particular requirements for commercial electric forced convection ovens, steam cookers and steam-convection ovens' issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electrical Appliances Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This Indian standard was first published in 1993 as IS 302-2-46 : 1993 'Safety of household and similar electrical appliances: Part 2 Particular requirements, Section 46 Electric steam cookers', which was based on IEC 60335-2-46 : 1986 'Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - Part 2: Particular requirements for commercial electric steam cookers'. Consequently upon the replacement of IEC 60335-2-46 : 1986 by a subsequent edition of IEC 60335-2-42, this revision has been undertaken to harmonize with the latest version of IEC 60335-2-42. This standard supersedes IS 302-2-46 : 1993.

This standard covers the safety requirements for commercial electric forced convection ovens, steam cookers and steam-convection ovens. This standard does not cover the performance requirements, which are covered under a separate standard (see IS 11879 : 1986 'Specification for electric steam cookers').

This Part 2 is to be used in conjunction with IS 302 (Part 1) : 2024 'Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety: Part 1 General requirements (seventh revision)'.

NOTE - When 'Part 1' is mentioned in this standard, it refers to IS 302 (Part 1).

This Part 2 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in IS 302 (Part 1), so as to convert that publication into the Indian standard: Safety requirements for commercial electric forced convection ovens, steam cookers and steam-convection ovens.

When a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in this standard, that subclause applies as far as is reasonable. When this standard states "addition", "modification" or "replacement", the relevant text in Part 1 is to be adapted accordingly.

NOTES

1 The following numbering system is used:

a) subclauses, tables and figures that are numbered starting from 101 are additional to those in Part 1;

b) unless notes are in a new subclause or involve notes in Part 1, they are numbered starting from 101, including those in a replaced clause or subclause; and

c) additional annexes are lettered AA, BB, etc.

2 The following print types are used:

a) requirements: in roman type;

b) test specifications: in italic type; and

c) notes: in small roman type.

Should however, any deviation exist between IS 302 (Part 1) : 2024 and this standard, the provisions of the latter shall apply.

This standard includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous version (minor changes are not listed):

1) Addition of electrical operated commercial forced convection ovens, steam-convection ovens and steam generators in the scope (1);

2) Clarification of applicable standard for appliances for use by laymen (1, 7.12);

3) Addition of normative references (2);

4) Conversion of normative text to note (3.1.4);

5) Introduced definitions of normal operation, rated pressure (3.1.9,3.1.101);

6) Clarification of class and protection of appliances (6);

7) Modifications in marking and instructions (7);

8) Addition of test for fan motors providing a cooling effect (9.101);

9) Modifications in temperature rise requirements (11.2, 11.3,11.4, 11.7, 11.8);

10) Introduction of a new Clause 12 charging of metal- ion batteries;

11) Test for transient over voltages added (14);

12) Modifications in tests for abnormal operation (19);

13) Addition of test to ensure adequate stability when the doors are open and subjected to a load (20.101);

14) Addition of test to check mechanical strength of shelves (21.101);

15) Additions and modifications in constructional requirements (22);

16) Addition of tests on capillary tube of thermostat (23.3);

17) Modifications and additions regarding supply connection and external flexible cords (25);

18) Addition of stationary appliances terminal requirements (27.2);

19) Addition of conformity requirements for screws made of carbon steel and alloy steel, and screws made of corrosion-resistant stainless-steel (28.1);

20) Addition of torques for screwed connections providing earthing continuity (28.4, Table 102);

21) Addition of clearances, creepage distances and solid insulation (29);

22) Test for glow wire, needle flame test and burning test added (30);

23) Test for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) added;

24) Figure of probe for measuring surface temperatures added;

25) Figure of adjacent surfaces which are not measured added;

26) Figure for identification of surfaces for temperature measurement added;

27) Annex on battery-operated appliances, separable batteries and detachable batteries for battery operated appliances added (Annex B);

28) Annex on guidance for the application of this standard to appliances used in tropical climates added (Annex P);

29) Annex on Appliances intended to be used on board ships added (Annex AA).

The text of IEC standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the currentpractice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
