IS 3177 : 2020 Electric Overhead Travelling Crane and Gantry Crane for all Applications-Code of Practice

1 SCOPE
1.1 This standard covers requirements for design, manufacture, inspection and testing of electric overhead travelling cranes and gantry cranes for use in steel works and other locations. Its provisions where applicable, shall also apply to special purpose cranes, such as, those listed in Annex A including steel plant crane and other overhead travelling cranes, portal and semi-portal cranes, single girder, double girder or mono-box type (Fig. 1). It is recommended that, the crane should be designed based on the duty classes and application, irrespective of usage in steel works or at other locations. Classification of the crane as a whole shall be taken as defined from classes A1, A2, ...... A8 and as defined as from mechanism classes M1, M2, ..... M8 classification as defined in foreword. Structural design aspects of all types of cranes and hoists are covered in IS 807.
