This Indian Standard (Part 1), which is identical with ISO 584-1: 1986 `Conical fittings with a 6 % (Luer) for syringes, needlesand certain other medical equipment - Part 1 : Generalrequirements, issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO), was adopted by the Indian StandardInstitution on the recommendation of the Medical Glass instrumentsand Appliances Sectional Committee and approval of the ConsumerProducts and Medical instruments Division Council.

In order to safeguard the national interest the temperature atwhich the gauging test and stress cracking test as mentioned inclauses 5.1 and 5.5 are conducted may be 27�C. Thistemperature has been accepted by ISO for tropical countries.
