NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 25), which is identical with ISO 14714 : 1998 ‘Essential oils and aromatic extracts - Determination of residual benzene content’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by the Fragrance and Flavour Ingredients Sectional Committee had been approved by the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

ISO has developed a test method for determination of residual benzene content in essential oils using static headspace gas chromatography. The Sectional Committee has accordingly decided to adopt the ISO 14714 : 1998 under dual number system and while adoption the main title of exiting series of IS 326 has been retained.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
