NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 13) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 2285 : 2013 ‘Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of tension set under constant elongation, and of tension set, elongation and creep under constant tensile load’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Methods of Test for Rubber and Rubber Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

Tension set is an important property for the rubber components subjected to tensile stress, intermittently.

The requirements for tension set in some of the present product specifications are based on different durations of time for application of strain and the formulae for calculations. The time and the formula specified in the product specifications shall be followed till they are revised to amend the value of tension set based on this test method.

This Indian Standard was originally published in 1972 and subsequently revised in 1983. This standard was originally published to cover only three types of test pieces. In first revision, dumb-bell type test pieces were included. The first revision was mainly based on ISO 2285 : 1981 ‘Vulcanized rubbers - Determination of tension set under constant elongation at normal and high temperatures’, issued by International Organization for Standardization. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 2285 : 2013
