NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 28) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 3384-1 : 2017 ‘Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of stress relaxation in compression - Part 1: Testing at constant temperature’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation(s) of the Methods of Test for Rubber and Rubber Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2018 which was identical with ISO 3384-1 : 2011. First revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 3384-1 : 2019. The Committee also decided to modify the common title of all the Indian Standards under IS 3400 series as ‘Methods of test for rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastics’ for the uniformity in the title in line with the ISO Standards.

The main changes in this revision are:

a)title of the standard has been modified;

b)test procedures have been improved in detail;

c)the requirement for compression device (5.1) has been harmonized with other International Standards; and

d)content of ISO 3384-1 : 2011/Amd.1 : 2013 has been incorporated (Annex B).
