1 Scope
1.1 This standard (Part 1) prescribes method for thedetermination of the creep strain of metal test samples subjectedthroughout their duration to nominally constant tensile load andconstant temperature conditions in either single or multi-testsample creep testing machines for up to 100 000 h. It defines theproperties to be determined and the terms used in describing testsand test samples.
1.2 This standard is applicable to interrupted andnon-interrupted test, on test samples of circular and rectangularcross-section and also on test samples from tubes. It is applicableto creep tests in which strain is measured by an extensometer, andto creep test in which, strain above certain lower limiting valuesis determined by measurement at room temperature, duringinterruptions made for that purpose throughout the test.
1.3 The standard is applicable to the condition of heating thetest sample in an electric resistance or radiation furnace in airor atmosphere pressure unless other media are specifically agreedupon in advance.
1.4 This standard is not applicable for conditions of rapidheating, rapid strain rates or too short times.
1.5 This standard does not cover the creep testing of notchedtest specimens.
