NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical to ISO 1833-12 : 2020 'Textiles - Quantitative chemical analysis - Part 12: Mixtures of acrylic, certain modacrylics, certain chlorofibres, certain elastane fibres with certain other fibres (method using dimethylformamide)' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Chemical Methods of Test Sectional Committee and approval of the Textiles Division Council.

This Indian Standard was published in 1966 and has been first revised in 1988 to include another method based on dissolution of acrylic fibres in 80 percent (m/m) sulphuric acid. This new method is less hazardous and more economical as compared to use of toxic and costly dimethyl formamide. The second revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 1833-12 : 2020

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

 a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appears referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

 b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
