NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Third Revision) which is a modified adoption of ISO 5745 : 2004 ‘Pliers and nippers - Pliers for gripping and manipulating - Dimensions and test values’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Hand Tool Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1966 and subsequently revised in 1973 & 1989. The second revision was taken up to bring the standard compatible with the flat nose pliers as given in ISO 5745 : 1988 ‘Pliers and nippers - Pliers for gripping and manipulating - Dimensions and test values’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version ISO 5745 : 2004. This version covers the requirements for round nose, flat nose, and snipe nose pliers which were previously covered separately in IS 3552, IS 3568, IS 5658 and IS 8672. Accordingly, this Indian standard supersedes IS 3552 : 1989, IS 3568 : 1990, IS 5658 : 1990 and IS 8672 : 1989.
