1 Scope
1.1 This standard covers the processing of iron and steel toproduce coatings consisting essentially of metal phosphates thatare intended to be used in conjunction with organic coatings forprotection against corrosion. The standard also covers methods oftesting finished coatings. It covers five classes of phosphatingprocesses (both un-accelerted and accelerated as defined in 2.1 to2.6) which are designated in terms of compositions and weights ofthe coatings.
1.1.1 This standard is intended for general purposes of industryand does not cover treatment of ferrous surfaces for deep drawingnor does it deal with phosphating treatment on zinc, cadmium oraluminium for passivation purpose.
1.2 Certain phosphating processes, particularly heavy classes, are likely to alter the dimensions of the components and dueallowance for this should be given in the design stage or inselecting the particular phosphating process.
