1 Scope

1.1 This Indian Standard (Part 1) specifies design, materials,methods of construction, inspection and testing of centrifuges ofthe basket and bowl and vibrating types for use in industrial andcommercial applications. To assist manufacturers and users tofulfil their obligations towards Health and Safety, information isincluded covering safe access and safe working. Additionalprovisions necessary for handling highly flammable and/or toxicsubstances are also included.

1.2 Tube and bottle type centrifuges as used in laboratories areexcluded from this standard. High speed gas centrifuges used forthe enrichment of fissile material are also excluded.

1.3 The handling of explosive or biologically hazardousmaterials and also the use of non-metallic material for stressedparts of rotating assemblies is outside the scope of this standard.
