IS 4160 : 2005 Interlocking Switch Socket Outlets - Specification

1 Scope

Replace this clause of IS 1293 by the following:

This standard applies to switched socket-outletswith interlock for ac only, for fixed electrical installations, with orwithout earthing contact, with rated voltage above 50 V but not exceeding440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A, intended forhousehold and similar purposes, either indoors or outdoors.

Switched socket-outlets with interlock accordingto this standard consist of a combination of socketoutletsaccording to IS 1293, interlocked with a switch according to IS 3854supplied as a complete unit,

The rated current is limited to 16A maximum forfixed accessories provided with screwless terminals.

This standard does not cover requirements for flushmounting boxes.

However, it covers those requirements for surfacetypemounting boxes which are necessary for the tests on socket-outlets.

NOTES

1 General requirements for mounting boxes are coveredby IS 14772.

2 Interlocked socket-outlets incorcorporating devicesaccording to IS 8828 and IS 12640 ( Part 1 ) and IS 12640 ( Part 2 )are not covered by this standard. These standards may be used as a guide forthe requirement and tests of these accessories whererelevant.

This standard does not apply to:

a) Interlocked socket-outlets for industrialpurposes; and

b) Interlocked socket-outlets for SELV.

Accessories complying with this standard are suitablefor use at an ambient temperature not normally exceeding35�C, but occasionally reaching 45�C.
