NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Third Revision) which is identical with ISO 17577 : 2016 ‘Steel - Ultrasonic testing of steel flat products of thickness equal to or greater than 6 mm’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Non-destructive Testing Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.
This standard was originally published in 1967 and subsequently revised in 1969 and 2004. First revision of this standard was based on to incorporate details regarding the test procedure including the scanning technique. The second revision of this standard was based on to incorporate the requirement for reference setting for scanning based on purchaser requirement. The requirement for test frequency, acceptance criteria and record of the date were revised. The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 17577 : 2016.
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standard. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be as read as ‘Indian Standard’
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
