1 Scope
1.1 This standard prescribes a method for ultrasonic testing andinspection of welds by direct contact pulse echo reflection method. This method is applicable to material thickness over 5 mm.
1.2 These requirements are established for detection, locationand evaluation of reflection within the weld, heat affected zoneand adjacent material. The examination classification are:
a) Welds in ferritic product forms in wrought and castmaterials, other than pipes; and
b) Ferritic welds in ferritic pipes.
1.3 This standard covers technique to be employed at normaltemperature. Care shall be taken to ensure that the temperature oftest piece is not above the temperature for which the probe isdesignated.
