IS 4432 : 1988 Case hardening steels

1 Scope

Covers the technical delivery requirements for wrought lowcarbon unalloyed and alloyed steel bars, billets, rods and finishedforgings for case-hardening.

1.1 The steels are, in general, intended for forgings andfabrication of case-hardened machine of automobile parts,

1.2 Case-hardening of parts means which are carburized orcarbonitrided on their surface and subsequently hardened to producea high degree of hardness in the surface zone, whilst the corematerial is characterized by relatively good toughness.
