1 Scope

1.1 This standard (Part 4) covers stainless steels listed in Table 1 whichare usually used in the cold drawn condition in the form of wire of circularcross-section up to 10 mm in diameter, for the manufacture of springs and springparts that are exposed to corrosive effects and sometimes to slightly increasedtemperatures.

1.2 Stainless steels which are covered in this standard and which exhibitspecial corrosion resistance are of austenitic type with chromium contentshigher than 12 percent and are spring hard cold drawn.

Note - Many steels other than those mentioned in Table 1 exist for useagainst special kinds of corrosion attacks but the requirements for springs insuch conditions are not large.
