NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Sixth Revision) which is identical to ISO 2398 : 2016 'Rubber hoses, textilereinforced, for compressed air - Specification' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Rubber and Rubber Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1953 and subsequently revised in 1964, 1968, 1980,1987 and 2017. The second revision combined IS 446 : 1964 and IS 3557 : 1965, covering both light and heavy-duty rubber air hoses. The third revision merged IS 446 : 1968 and IS 911 : 1968, incorporating woven and braided textile reinforcements. The fourth revision removed material and design specifications, focusing only on performance requirements while updating pressure, ageing, and adhesion criteria.

The fifth revision aligns with ISO 2398 : 2006 (reviewed in 2009) under a dual numbering system to match international advancements, retaining the ISO standard's title.

The sixth revision has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 2398 : 2016 in dual numbering system to make pace with latest developments that have taken place at international level. The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
