This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with IEC 60745-1 : 2006 ‘Hand-held motor-operated electric tools — Safety — Part 1: General requirements’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Rotating MachinerySectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was first issued in 1968 and subsequently revised in 1984. This revision has been undertaken to align this standard with the latest version of IEC 60745-1.
