IS 4897 : 1994 Deviations on untoleranced dimensions and mass of steel castings

1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers the following:

1.1.1 Permissible deviations on the untoleranced dimensions andmass of sand and shell moulded steel castings. It consists of thefollowing 3 classes of deviations:

Class 1A   Deviations for steel castings involvingshell moulding

Class 1    Deviations for steel castingsinvolving machine moulding

Class 2    Deviations for steel castingsinvolving hand moulding

1.1.2 Machining allowances that may be provided on faces whichare subject to subsequent machining.

1.1.3 Permissible draft that may be provided.

1.2 The method of classification of steel castings based onwhether they are made by shell, machine or hand moulding as givenin 1.1.1 would also apply for the purpose of 1.1.2 and 1.1.3.
