NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 15/Sec 2) which is identical with ISO 10473 : 2000 ‘Ambient air — Measurement of the mass of particulate matter on a filter medium — Beta-ray absorption method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Air Quality Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

IS 5182 (Part 15) ‘Methods for measurement of air pollution : Part 15 Mass concentration ofparticulate matter in the atmosphere’ was published in 1974. The Committee has now decided to rename IS 5182 (Part 15) as IS 5182 (Part 15/Sec 1) ‘Methods for measurement of air pollution: Part 15 Mass concentration of particulate matter in the atmosphere, Section 1 Aerosol light scattering method’. Hence, this standard, using the beta-ray absorption method, has been numbered as IS 5182 (Part 15/Sec 2).

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
