NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2/Sec 2) which is identical with ISO 10498 : 2004 ‘Ambient air - Determination of sulfur dioxide - Ultraviolet fluorescence method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Air Quality Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

IS 5182 (Part 2) ‘Methods for measurement of air pollution : Part 2 Sulphur dioxide’ was first published in 1969 and subsequently revised in 2001. The Committee has now decided to rename IS 5182 (Part 2) as IS 5182 (Part 2/Sec 1) ‘Methods for measurement of air pollution : Part 2 Sulphur dioxide, Section 1 Potassium tetrachloromercurate method’. Hence, adoption of this standard, shall be numbered as IS 5182 (Part 2/Sec 2).

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
