New Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 3/Sec 6) which is identical with ISO 10540-1 : 2003 ‘Animal and vegetable fats and oils - Determination of phosphorus content - Part 1: Colorimetric method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, on recommendation of the Oils and Oilseeds Sectional Committee, and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

IS 548 was first published in 1954 covering the methods of sampling, physical, chemical and qualitative tests for oils and fats. Subsequently, the standard was revised in 1964 and split into 3 parts namely:

Part 1 Methods of sampling, physical and chemical tests;

Part 2 Methods for purity tests; and

Part 3 Methods of analysis of vegetable oils and fats by gas liquid chromatography (GLC) technique (first published in 1976).
