IS 5530 : 2005 Recommendations for Production, Rectification and Repair of Steel Castings by Metal Arc Welding Process

1 SCOPE

1.1 This standard specifies requirements for metal arcwelding of steel castings, when it is used:

a) as a part of normal production process,

b) to rectify a casting before it is put into service,and

c) to repair a casting that has been in service.

1.2 It does not cover the welding of complete castingsinto a fabrication, nor the surface deposition of weldmetal for applications, such as corrosion resistance orhard facing.

1.3 This standard primarily covers the manual metalarc welding of steel castings given in Table 1, butguidance for use of other processes has been given insome clauses. Other fusion welding processes may beused with suitable modification and/or additions to therequirements specified.
