NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 5) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 8022 : 1990 'Surface active agents - Determination of wetting power by immersion' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Soaps and Other Surface Active Agents Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1981. This first revision of this standard has been taken up to harmonize it with the latest version of ISO 8022 : 1990 by adoption, under dual numbering system.

Conditioning and test atmospheres stipulated in this standard are not applicable to tropical/subtropical countries like India. The applicable standard atmospheric conditions (SAC) for Indian conditions are 27 ± 2oC and 65 ± 5 percent relative humidity and shall be observed while using this Indian Standard. Therefore, reference to ISO 139 : 1973 'Textiles - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing' as appeared in this adopted standard is not considered acceptable for use in conjunction with this standard.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
