NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 9) which is identical with ISO 4045 : 2018 ‘Leather - Chemical tests - Determination of pH and difference figure’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Leather, Tanning Materials and Allied Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

The Indian Standard IS 16258 : 2015 is the identical adoption of ISO 4045 : 2008 ‘Leather - Chemical tests - Determination of pH’ while the Indian Standard IS 582 : 1970 ‘Methods of chemical testing of leather (first revision)’ prescribes the methods of chemical testing for all types of leathers and includes determination of pH in LC : 18. Hence, there are two identical standards on the same subject.
