This Indian Standard (Part 3/Sec 2) (Third Revision) which is identical to ISO/TS 6579-2 : 2012 ‘Microbiology of food and animal feed - Horizontal method for the detection, enumeration and serotyping of Salmonella - Part 2: Enumeration by a miniaturized most probable number technique’, issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Food Hygiene, Safety Management and Other Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.
This standard was originally published in 1970 and first revised in 1976 by splitting into parts with Part 3 covering the isolation and identification of Salmonella and Shigella. The second revision of the standard was done in 1999 when it was revised to cover the provisions of Salmonella only and to align with ISO 6579 : 1993. The provisions of Shigella were covered separately in Part 7.
Subsequently, ISO 6579 was revised and published in three parts. In this third revision, IS 5887 (Part 3) has been split into three sections and all the sections are identical adoptions of the three parts of ISO 6579 respectively under dual numbering. The other sections in this series are:
Section 1 Detection of Salmonella spp.
Section 3 Guidelines for serotyping of Salmonella spp.
