NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 7494-1 : 2018 ‘Dentistry - Stationary dental units and dental patient chairs - Part 1: General requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Dentistry Sectional Committee and after approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.

This is second revision to IS 6116 : 1992/ISO 6875 : 1988 which was first published in 1971 and then revised in 1992 to align with the latest ISO Standard in order to incorporate the practices followed at the international level. The corresponding standard ISO 6875 : 1998 was revised as ISO 6875 : 1995 and subsequently as ISO 6875 : 2011 which has now been published in two parts – ISO 7494-1 : 2018 and ISO 7494-2 : 2015. Consequently, this Indian standard will be published in two parts- the other part being ‘Dentistry - Dental units - Part 2: Air, water, suction and wastewater systems’.
