IS 6290 : 1986 Steam irons

1 Scope

1.0 This clause of IS 302 : 1979 is applicable except asfollows:

1.1 Replacement - This standard applies to electric steam ironsfor household and similar purposes.

Irons not intended for normal household use, but whichnevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as ironsintended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and onfarms, are within the scope of this standard.

This standard does not take into account the specialhazards which exist in nurseries and other places where there areyoung children or aged or infirm persons without supervision; insuch cases, additional requirements may be necessary.

1.2 Replacement - This standard does not apply to:

- rotary ironers;

- flat-bed ironers;

- irons intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships oraircraft;

- irons intended to be used in tropical countries;

- irons intended to be used in locations where specialconditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive orexplosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).
