NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 2230 : 2002 ‘Rubber products —Guidelines for storage’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Methods of Test for Rubber and Rubber Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council..

This standard was first published in 1972 based on ISO 2230 ‘Vulcanized rubber — Guide to storage’. The first revision was published in 1996, as the Committee responsible for its preparation then decided to enlarge its scope and update the standard based on BS 3574 : 1989 ‘Controlled storage and packaging of vulcanized rubber and rubber products’ issued by the British Standards Institution and in the light of experience gained over the years. In that revision the definitions, classification, packaging, packaging materials, marking, storage, storage conditions, rotation of stocks, inspection, testing and recording were included. Recommendations for inspection and testing of some of the specific products were included in Annex A.

The Committee has now decided to revise and adopt this standard to completely align it with the latest version of ISO 2230 : 2002 under dual number system.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
