NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 1964 : 1987 'Shipbuilding - Indication of details on the general arrangement plans of ships' issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Shipbuilding Sectional Committee and approval of the Transport Engineering Division Council.

Conventional signs and symbols are widely used in schematic diagrams to indicate various items of equipment and fittings on general arrangement plans of ships.

This standard was first published in 1972 which was in agreement with ISO/R 1964 : 1971. This revision has been undertaken to harmonize it with ISO 1964 :1987.

The text of ISO standard may be approved for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
