IS 7016 : Part 1 : Sec 3 : 2019/ISO 2286-3 : 2016 Methods of Test for Coated and Treated Fabrics Part 1 Determination of Roll Characteristics Section 3 Method for determination of thickness
Reaffirmed 2023
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1/Sec 3) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 2286-3 : 2016 ‘Rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics - Determination of roll characteristics ? Part 3: Method for determination of thickness’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by the Methods of Test for Rubber and Rubber Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.
Coated and treated fabrics are normally sold in the roll form. It, therefore, becomes essential to find out the correct length, width and thickness of the rolls of fabric before accepting the supply. Further, the mass per unit area of the coated and treated fabric, base fabric and of the coating are important requirements for such fabrics. All these requirements are collectively called the roll characteristics.
This standard, IS 7016 (Part 1) was first published in 1973 and revised in 1982 incorporating changes as a result of experiences gained in implementation and drawing assistance from ISO 2286 : 1972. In 1998, ISO 2286 was technically revised and published into the following 3 different parts, under the title ‘Rubber and plastics-coated fabrics — Determination of roll characteristics’:
Part 1 Methods for determination of length, width and net mass
Part 2 Methods for determination of total mass per unit area, mass per unit area of coating and mass per unit area of substrate
Part 3 Method for determination of thickness
The Sectional Committee has decided to completely align IS 7016 (Part 1) with the latest International Standards and publish them under dual numbering system. As the Indian Standard is already part of series of standards, it further decided to publish the different parts of ISO 2286 as three different standards as sections of IS 7016 (Part 1). Other sections are,
Section 1 Methods for determination of length, width and net mass
Section 2 Methods for determination of total mass per unit area, mass per unit area of coating and mass per unit area of substrate
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
