This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 5778 : 1998 `Ships andmarine technology - Small weathertight steel hatches' issued by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by theBureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Inland HarbourCrafts and Fishing Vessels Sectional Committee and approval of theTransport Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1991. This revision has been taken up to harmonize it with thelatest version of ISO Standard.

The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standardwithout deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear referring to this standard, they shouldbe read as ?Indian Standard?.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the-current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to the following International Standard for which IndianStandard also exists. The corresponding Indian Standard which is to be substituted in its place is listedbelow along with its degree of equivalence for the edition indicated:
