[ Amalgamating IS 7071 (Parts 1 to 3) : 1989 and IS 7071 (Part 4) : 1986 ]

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 2307 : 2019 ‘Fibre ropes - Determination of certain physical and mechanical properties’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Physical Methods of Test Sectional Committee and approval of the Textiles Division Council.

This standard was earlier published in four parts, IS 7071 (Parts 1 to 3) : 1989 ‘Ropes and cordages - Methods of physical test - Part 1: General, Part 2: Determination of mass, linear density and length and Part 3: Determination of diameter, circumference and lay’ and IS 7071 (Part 4) : 1986 ‘Methods of physical test for ropes and cordages: Part 4 Breaking load and elongation at break’. IS 7071 (Parts 1 to 3) was published in 1974 and subsequently revised in 1989 whereas IS 7071 (Part 4) was first published in 1986.

These four parts have now been amalgamated into one standard in order to align it with the latest version of ISO 2307 : 2019. This standard supersedes IS 7071 (Parts 1 to 3) : 1989 (first revision) and IS 7071 (Part 4) : 1986.
