ICS 55.180.20                         TED 24

Revised Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Third Revision) which is identical with ISO 6780 : 2003 ‘Flat pallets for intercontinental materials handling - Principal dimensions and tolerances’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Transport Packages, Packaging Codes, Freight Containers and Pallets Sectional Committee had been approved by the Transport Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published as IS 7276 (Part 1) : 1974 and covered non-expendable pallets. First revision of this standard was made in 1979 when the Sectional Committee decided to prepare separate standards for expendable and non-expendable pallets without making reference to material to enable the manufacturers and users to select appropriate material keeping specific application in view. The second revision of this standard was done to make it more comprehensive. The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 6780 : 2003.

The text of ISO Standard has been proposed to be approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
