This Indian Standard (Part 2) which is identical with ISO 5356-2: 1987 `Anesthetic and respiratory equipment - Conical connectors -Part 2 : Screw-threaded weight-bearing connectors', issued by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adoptedby the Bureau of Indian Standards, on the recommendation of theAnesthetic, Resuscitation and Allied Equipment Sectional Committeeand approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital PlanningDivision Council. Breathing attachments of anesthetic apparatuscomprise a number of connection pieces. Fittings and othercomponents made by different manufacturers have a large variationin dimensions which has often posed problem in using componentsmade by different manufacturers to suit the needs of both thepatient and the anesthetist. This standard is expected to provideready interchangeability of equipment particularly in time ofemergency, without any intention to introduce standardization ofdesign except in so far as the size and sequence of fittings areconcerned.
