NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 4063 : 2009 ‘Welding and allied processes - Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on therecommendation of the Welding General and its Applications Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1956 and revised in 1986. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to bring it in line with ISO 2553 : 1984 ‘Welds - Symbolic representation on drawings’ and ISO 4063 : 1978 ‘Welding brazing, braze welding and soldering of metals List of processes, for symbolic representation on drawings’. The Committee has now decided to adopt this standard under dual numbering system to align it with the latest version of ISO 4063 : 2009. This standard is now being published in two parts. Other part of this standard is:

Part 1 Symbolic representation on drawings - Welded joints

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
