IS 816 : 1969 Code of practice for use of metal arc welding for general construction in mild steel

1 Scope

1.1 This code is supplement to IS : 800-1962 and covers the useof metal arc welding in the design and fabrication of steelstructures in general building construction. It is intendedprimarily for manual arc welding but may also be applied toautomatic and semi-automatic arc processes.

1.2 This code, subject to the provisions of IS : 1024-1968 shallalso apply to bridges and structures subject to dynamic loading.

1.3 The provisions of this code generally apply to the repair ofexisting building construction in mild steel but do not necessarilycover all the provisions applicable to the strengthening ofexisting structures which should be the subject of specialconsideration. Special provisions covering the design andfabrication of pipelines, boiler storage tanks and tubular steelstructures, are intended to be dealt with in separate codes.
