1 Scope

1.1 This standard lays down recommendations for design of linearscales and indexes for quantitative instruments to be read to aresolution within 0.33 to 0.62 and 0.67 to 1.25 percent of thescale range. These recommendations are applicable only to singlescale, single range instruments having dials with full circle, partcircle or straight scales.

1.2 These recommendations are not applicable totrans-illuminated dials, moving-scale with fixed-index instrumentsor to scales which have substantially non-linear characteristics.
