National Foreword
This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 5833 : 2002 ‘Implants for surgery - Acrylic resin cements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of Orthopaedic Instruments Implant and Accessories Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.
IS 8641 was first published in 1984 based on ISO 5833-1 : 1979 and subsequently second revision was taken up in 1997 to incorporate the modifications affected in the second edition of ISO 5833 brought out in 1992. This third revision has been taken up to align it with the latest ISO 5833 brought out in 2002.
The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in the Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
