1. SCOPE

This standard (Part 4) deals with snow loads on roofs of buildings and structures. Roofs should be designed for the actual load due to snow or for the imposed loads specified in IS 875 (Part 2), whichever is more severe.

NOTE - Mountainous regions in northern and eastern parts of India are subjected to snow-fall. In northern India, parts of union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J & K), union territory of Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and in eastern India, parts of Arunachal and Sikkim experience snow-fall ofvarying depths two to three times in a year.
