IS 9103 : 1999 Concrete Admixtures - Specification

ICS 91.100.30 CED 2
Reaffirmed 2018

1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers the chemical and air-entrainingadmixtures including superplasticizers, solid or liquid oremulsion, to be added to cement concrete at the time of mixing soas to achieve the desired property in concrete, in the plastic orhardened state.

1.2 The different types of admixtures covered in this standardare as follows:

a) Accelerating admixtures,

b) Retarding admixtures,

c) Water-reducing admixtures,

d) Air-entraining admixtures, and

e) Superplasticizing admixtures.

1.3 The chloride content in the admixture shall be declared bythe manufacturer. SuperPlasticizers are expected to be chloridefree.

1.3.1 Admixtures that contain relatively large amounts ofchloride may accelerate corrosion of prestressing steel, Wherecorrosion of such steel is of major concern, compliance with therequirement of this specification does not constitute assurance ofacceptability of the admixture for use in prestressed concrete. Incase of reinforced concrete, to minimize the chances ofdeterioration of concrete, the total chloride content in theconcrete should be limited as specified in IS 456.
