1 Scope

1.1 This standard (Part 6) covers the chemical composition, mechanicalproperties, hardenability and isothermal transformation characteristics of 40C8grade of steel for use by automobile and ancillary industry.

1.2 This is a plain carbon steel, intended to be used in the hardened andtempered condition.
