NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Fourth Revision) is identical with ISO 6488 : 2021 ‘Tobacco and tobacco products - Determination of water content - Karl Fischer method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by Tobacco and Tobacco Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1977 subsequently revised in 1989, 1999 and 2008. This revision has been undertaken to align it with the latest edition of ISO 6488 : 2021. The major changes introduced in this revision are as follows:

a) The term high-moisture tobacco has been deleted; and

b) Further information on interlaboratory testing including additional sample types and corresponding statistical data have been added.
