This Indian Standard (Part 3) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 3098-4:2000 Technicalproduct documentation - Lettering - Part 4: Diacritical and particular marks for the Latin alphabet issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau ofIndian Standards on the recommendation of the Drawings Sectional Committee and approval of theProduction and General Engineering Division Council.

IS 9609 (Part 3) :1991 which is identical with ISO 3098-3:1987 was adopted by the Bureau of IndianStandards in 1991. This second edition of ISO 3098-4:2000 cancels and replaces the first editionof ISO 3098-3:1987 and titled as Technical product documentation - Lettering - Part 4: Diacriticaland particular marks for the Latin alphabet .

This Part 4 of ISO 3098 has been renumbered as Part 3 in order to maintain the sequence of partnumbers of IS 9609 sereis of IS Standards.

This standard specifies the diacritical and particular marks for the Latin alphabet, for use together withthe characters shown in ISO 3098-2. These marks are listed in Tables 1 and 2 according to variouslanguages in which they are used.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention isparticularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words International Standard appear referring to this standard, they shouldbe read as Indian Standard .

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to the following International Standard for which IndianStandard also exists. The corresponding Indian Standard which is to be substituted in its place is listedbelow along with its degree of equivalence for the edition indicated:
