National Foreword

This Indian Standard (Part 4) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 3098-6:2000 Technical productdocumentation - Lettering - Part 6: Cyrillic alphabet issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of theDrawings Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1991 which is identical with ISO 3098-4:1984. Now ISO has rearrangedall the parts of ISO 3098. This part of ISO cancels and replaces ISO 3098-4:1984.This Part 6 of ISO 3098 has been renumbered as Part 4 in order to maintain the sequence of partnumbers of IS 9609 sereis of IS Standards.

This standard specifies the Cyrillic Russian alphabet for use with text and/or as symbols in technicaldrawings and associated instruments. It primarily concerns characters written with the aid of stencils,but is equally applicable to freehand lettering or other appropriate methods.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.Attentionis particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words International Standard appear referring to this standard they shouldbe read as Indian Standard .

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to the following International Standard for which IndianStandard also exists. The corresponding Indian Standard which is to be substituted in its place is listedbelow along with its degree of equivalence for the edition indicated:
