NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 5) which is identical with IEC 60071-5 : 2014 ‘Insulation co-ordination - Part 5: Procedures for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the HVDC Power Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was earlier published as IS 2165 (Part 5) : 2005 ‘Insulation coordination: Part 5 Procedure for High-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations’ which was identical to IEC 60071-5 : 2002. The committee has now decided to align it with the latest international standard IEC 60071-5 : 2014.

This standard supersedes IS 2165 (Part 5) : 2005. After the publication of this standard, IS 2165 (Part 5) : 2005 stands withdrawn.

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appears referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
