Revised Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This draft Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 60479-1 : 2018 ‘Effects of current on human beings and livestock - Part 1: General aspects’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Electrical Installations Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2014 as IS/IEC 60479-1 : 2005. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of IEC 60479-1 : 2018.

In this revised standard, the contents of IS/IEC 60479-3 relating to aspects unique to the effects of current passing through the bodies of livestock have been incorporated into a new Annex H. IS/IEC 60479-3 : 1998 shall be withdrawn consequent to publication of this standard.

This Indian Standard is published in several parts. The other parts in this series are:

Part 2 Special aspects

Part 4 Effects of lightning strokes on human beings and livestock

Part 5 Touch voltage threshold values for physiological effects

The text of the IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies ansd conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
