NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 6) which is identical with IEC 60605-6 : 2007 ‘Equipment reliability testing - Part 6: Tests for the validity and estimation of the constant failure rate and constant failure intensity’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Reliability of Electronic and Electrical Components and Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

IS 8161 (Part 6/Sec 1) : 1983 and IS 8161 (Part 6/Sec 2) : 1987 were based on ‘IEC Document 56 (Secretaries) 144 Draft IEC Standard 605 Equipment reliability testing: Part 6 Test for validity of a constant failure rate assumption’. The draft IEC was later published as IEC 60605-6. The superseding of above mentioned Indian Standards has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of IEC 60605-6 : 2004 and on publication of this standard, IS 8161 (Part 6/Sec 1) : 1983 and IS 8161 (Part 6/Sec 2) : 1987 is withdrawn.

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
