This Indian Standard (Part 11/Sec 5) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 60695-11-5 : 2016 ‘Fire Hazard testing - Part 11-5: Test flames - Needle - Flame test method - Apparatus, confirmatory test arrangement and guidance’ issued by International Electro technical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Environmental testing procedure Sectional Committee, and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2008 as IS 11000 (Part 2/Sec 2) : 2008 ‘Fire Hazard testing: Part 2 Test Methods, Section 2 Needle - Flame Test Method - Apparatus, Confirmatory test arrangement and guidance’. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of IEC 60695-11-5 : 2016.
