NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2/Sec 9) which is identical to IEC 60730-2-9 : 2011 ‘Automatic electric controls for household and similar use-Part 2-9: Particular requirements for temperature sensing controls’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electrical Apparatus for Electrical Appliances Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard would supersede IS 3017 : 1985 Thermostats for use with electric water heaters and 4165 : 1991 Thermostats for general purpose electric ovens.

This Part 2-9 is intended to be used in conjunction with IS/IEC 60730-1 : 1999. Consideration may be given to future editions of, or amendments to, IS/IEC 60730-1. This Part 2-9 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in IEC 60730-1, so as to convert that publication into the IEC standard: Particular requirements for temperature sensing controls. Where this Part 2-9 states "addition", "modification" or "replacement", the relevant requirement, test specification or explanatory matter in Part 1 should be adapted accordingly. Where no change is necessary, this Part 2-9 indicates that the relevant clause or subclause applies.

As IEC 60730-2-9 : 2011 was developed as an international standard, it has taken into consideration the differing requirements resulting from practical experience in various parts of the world and recognized the variation in national electrical systems and wiring rules. The “in some countries” notes regarding differing national practice are indicated as informative notes.

In this publication, the following print types are used:

a) Requirements proper: in roman type.

b) Test specifications: in italic type.

c) Explanatory matter: in smaller roman type.

Subclauses, notes or items which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101, additional annexes are lettered AA, BB, etc.

The text of the IEC standard has been approved as suitable for publication as Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
